Requirements for Becoming a Sea Cadet
Age & Grade Requirements:
- Navy League Cadets – Ages 10-13, grades 5-8
- Sea Cadets – Ages 13 through completion of high school, grades 9-12
Citizenship and Residency:
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents
Physical and Medical Requirements:
- Applicants must complete a medical exam similar to a school sports physical
- They must show potential to pass the Sea Cadets Physical Readiness Test within three months and repeat every six months
Attendance and Participation:
- Cadets are required to participate in regular monthly drills and attend training.
- Sea Cadets must meet minimum attendance requirements and complete specific training for promotion.
- Units require cadets to maintain attendance—usually at least 80% throughout the year—to advance in rank and take part in extra training opportunities.
Enrollment Process
- Complete an application
- Visit our unit for the Saturday portion of our drill. Visitors are not permitted to stay overnight until full enrollment in the program. The weekend drill fee (even for visitors) is $40 and can be paid via cash, check, or Zelle.
- To arrange a visit, you must first complete this Google contact form, then email the application (with the first four pages completed) and your request to attend the drill to the Recruiting Officer’s email.
- After your visit, you may pay the $195 enrollment fee via cash, check, or Zelle.
